About Emmerdale

Emmerdale used to be called Emmerdale Farm until 1989.  It is a highly acclaimed show that has won many awards and is third only to Coronation Street and Eastenders.

There are many small businesses in the village of Emmerdale.  The Home farm estates are owned by Matthew, Jimmy and Carl King and run by Rodney Blackstock.  The farm is the centre of the show in many ways and many tragic storylines has occurred on its premises.

Butler's Farm is another Farm in Emmerdale Village and is owned by Home Farm Estates, as described above.  Val’s Interiors is an interior design company both owned and run by Eric Pollard.  The Veterinary is run by Paddy but owned by both Paddy and Rosemary King.   The Grange B&B is owned by Louise Appleton and she co owns it with Terry Woods.  Café Hope is owned and run by Bob Hope (not the great actor) and his wife, Viv.  Viv Hope also owns and runs the local Post Office.

A haulage and bin collection service is run by Matthew King, jimmy King, Carl King and Scarlett Nicholls and run by Mattew, Jimmy and Carl king and Carrie Nicholls.

Nicola De Souza and David Metcalfe own and run the Emmerdale Exclusive Cleaning Services while the Windsor and Dingle Garage is owned and run by Debbie Dingle and Scott Windsor.

Another local company is Debbie’s cars, which is owned and run by Chas and Debbie Dingle and the Woolpack, which is run and owned by Diane Sugden and Val Lambert, who are sisters.

There have been many dramatic storylines in Emmerdale Village since the show began.  In 1990 Joe Sugden implanted steroids in his cattle and was caught in the act.  This was followed by a chemical tanker crashing into the wall of Beckindale’s main high street, trapping Amos in the cellar of the Woolpack.

In 1991 Amos moved to Spain in order to retire.  At the same time Alan Turner took over the Woolpack and prison saw the release of Kate Sugden for manslaughter.  Jim Latimer then kidnapped Sarah and a heart attack claimed the life of Henry Wilks.

The year of 1992 saw the serious storyline of sexual abuse occur regarding the character  Lorraine Nelson.  The Rt. Hon. Neil Kinchaid also had an affair with Kim Tate.  1993 saw Neil Kincaid, bizarrely, horse whipped by Frank Tate the day after new year’s eve and subsidence caused Emmerdale farm to collapse.  Lesbianism was also explored in this year, as one of the main characters, Zoe, came out as a lesbian.  Even more dramatically, a plane crash devastates the Village of Emmerdale.

2005 was a sad year, as the longest standing resident, Seth Armstrong, died.  The year of 2006 saw the Kings River Hourse collapse and the death of Dawn Hope brought more sadness.
